200 acres burn

Yakima Herald-Republic

WHITE SWAN -- A brush fire destroyed about 200 acres between Harrah and White Swan on Friday night.

The fire was reported at the intersection of Tecumseh and Fort roads about 4:40 p.m., according to Yakima County Fire District No. 5. About 30 people, including Yakama Nation Fire Management, responded to the call.

Although the exact cause of the fire are still under investigation, firefighters noticed five separate ignition spots in a two-mile stretch between the 13900 and 15900 blocks of Fort Road. The fire was caused by humans, and fireworks from a passing vehicle are suspected, according to a news release.

Elsewhere in the Valley, firefighters reported few fire calls, which they said is unusual for the Fourth of July.
