New studio teaches pilates exercise

A new pilates studio is now open in Yakima.

CS Pilates has opened at 3506 Summitview Ave., next to Papa John's Pizza. The studio has five instructors offering a variety of sessions on the practice, a total body exercise developed by Joseph Pilates to strengthen, stretch and balance the body.

Sessions are offered throughout the day. Group sessions cost between $15 and $30 each and private sessions range from $45 to $60 each. There are discounts available if you purchase multiple sessions. The studio also offers free introductory sessions.

State offers sales tax workshop

The state Department of Revenue is hosting a free workshop for new and small business owners from 8:30 to 11 a.m. March 12 at its Yakima office, 3703 River Road, Suite 3, near Fred Meyer.

During the workshop, participants will learn about state excise taxes, reporting classifications, deductions, tax incentives, sales tax collection and record-keeping requirements. Participants will receive a workbook and helpful reference guide to Department of Revenue rules and regulations.

Workshop for wine professionals

Washington State University is offering a workshop for wine-industry professionals April 12-13 at the WSU Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center at 24106 N. Bunn Road in Prosser.

The workshop is recommended for those who are looking to start a vineyard or winery or are new to the business.

During the workshop, participants will learn about the extensive financial, marketing and horticultural planning it takes to start a vineyard, what to look for in good wine grapes, how to design a winery and the financial investment required to run a winery.

Workshop speakers include Wendy Stuckey, Chateau Ste. Michelle's white winemaker, and Joe Chauncey of Seattle-based architecture firm Boxwood, the designer of the Col Solare winery and the Walter Clore Wine Center.

Seats are limited and pre-registration is required. The cost is $150 for one day, or $250 for both. Registration includes snacks, beverages and a catered lunch.

Shop features eyeglasses, sunglasses

A new eyeglasses shop is now open in Yakima.

Daniel Craig, a licensed optician, is offering a variety of eyeglasses and sunglasses at his new shop, Precision Optical & Yakima Sunglass. The store at 700 W. Walnut St. is across the street from Davis High School.

Craig specializes in European, vintage styles and offers both prescription and nonprescription sunglasses.
