EUGENE, Ore. -- A big rally for the Yakima Bears was undone by a big swing Wednesday night.

After getting blanked for six innings and falling behind 3-0, the Bears awoke for four runs in the seventh inning in their five-game series opener at Eugene's Civic Stadium.

Unfortunately the Emeralds answered right back with Matt Clark's three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh and Eugene dashed off for an 8-4 victory.

Yakima's first two pitchers issued four walks apiece and the last two offered by Sean Morgan were the biggest, coming just before Clark's right-field clout, which came off Ben Dollar for the go-ahead runs.

Eugene was cruising along with a 3-0 lead through six innings, but when the Emeralds made a pitching switch to Tyler Davis in the seventh the Bears pounced.

Andrew Fie slashed a two-run triple to right and then scored on a fielding error to tie the game. Ramon Castillo's two-out single -- Yakima's fourth hit in the inning -- scored David Cooper to give Yakima a 4-3 lead.

Brendan Duffy and Fie both finished 2-for-3.

Eugene got to Yakima starter Amado Rosario in the third inning as Beamer Weems and Blake Tekotte opened with back-to-back doubles. Clark later singled home Tekotte with two outs for a 2-0 lead.

Rosario struggled with his command but limited the damage. After Clark's single he issued two walks to load the bases but then struck out Jeudy Valdez swinging to end the inning.

In the fifth inning the Emeralds cashed in on two walks by Morgan and a fielding error to make it 3-0. That all came with no outs, but Morgan finished the inning by inducing a double play and striking out Valdez.

Eugene starter Geoff Vandel matched Rosario's four walks but Yakima couldn't make the lefty pay, managing just three hits during Vandel's 4 2/3 innings of work.
