Applications are now being accepted for this year's Central Washington State Fair Battle of the Bands.
The contest is open to bands of three or more people from Central Washington, all of whom must be 30 or younger. A maximum of 12 bands will be selected and must be available for the competition from 5-9 p.m. Sept. 29. Each band will be allowed 10 minutes to perform either cover songs or its own compositions.
Contestants will be judged on technical proficiency, audience response, vocals, originality, stage presence and audience vote.
And since this is a family event, bands will be disqualified for foul language or inappropriate gestures.
The winning band will receive $500 and will open for either Christian punk band Family Force 5 on Oct. 1, or Disney star Raven-Symoné on Oct. 4. Prizes for second and third place will also be awarded.
The application, an example of your performance on CD or DVD, a photo of your band and a stage plot must be mailed to or dropped off at State Fair Park by Sept. 11. There is a $30 entry fee.
Applications are available to download from the fair's Web site at www.fairfun.com. To find it, click on or scroll over the "How To Participate" button, then click on "Contests." Here, you can also find the application for this year's hip-hop dance contest.
For those who don't have Internet access, you can pick up these applications at the State Fair Park office, 1301 S. Fair Ave.
