SUNNYSIDE -- The 17-year-old Sunnyside boy shot in the head early Wednesday has told detectives he doesn't know what happened to him, Yakima County sheriff's officials said.

The boy, who is expected to survive, was transferred to Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center from Sunnyside Community Hospital, sheriff's Lt. Max James said.

A news release from the sheriff's office said Sunnyside police officers first responded about 3:30 a.m. to the 800 block of West Edison Road to check a report of gunshots. They weren't able to find any victims.

Within moments, the sheriff's office learned the shot boy was in the 300 block of South Lester Road, about three-quarters of a mile away from the Edison Road location. A vehicle struck by gunfire was also found on South Lester.

James said he did not have more information. No arrests have been made.
